It is a nice project comes under embedded system. It can be implemented easily. 8051 microcontroller is the most important part of this project. It can be easily implemented on hardware. I have simulated this project on proteus.

As you can see in the figure that there are 12 light of 3 different colors each 4. So that we need 12 pin so that each pin can be connected to each LED light. We just have to set the timing between each light to glow.
